Goggles, Swim Caps and Other Gear

Does my swimmer need to wear a swim cap?

No, the Geysers do not require swimmers to wear swim caps to practice or meets, though they are welcome to.

Why opt for the cap?  Swim caps help protect hair, and they can provide a speed ‘boost’ in competition.

Many swimmers complain that the caps are uncomfortable and difficult to put on, however a few pointers can help you and your swimmer learn how to wear the caps correctly.  If you need help learning the tricks to caps, see Coach Derek or any assistant coach immediately before or after practice.  They will be glad to help!

Joining Swim Team

I heard swim team is a great way to get better at swimming.  Will you teach my child to swim?

No, we do not offer basic swim instruction during swim team.  To join the team, your child must already be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted.  While we do teach and improve the various competitive strokes, team practice is mostly about speed and form.

I was at the pool and saw kids practicing.  Can we still join?

No, registration for swim team takes place in March and April of each year.  Until then, why don’t you join us at a home meet to cheer on this year’s team?  We love having an audience!

Swim Meets

How do I find directions to the swim meets?

Maps to each meet location are available on the Southwest Houston Recreational Swim League Web site at SHRSL.org.

Swim Team Practice

How can I find out if practice is cancelled?

We will post cancellations on the Geyser Web site bulletin board whenever possible.  Occasionally, we may cancel or delay practice with little or no notice due to weather related problems.  If in doubt, come by the pool to check it out.
